Life on the Screen is an interesting and a wide range of scrutiny of the impact
of computers and networking on society, people’s cognition of themselves, and
the individual's relationship to machines. Sherry Turkle, a instructor of the
Sociology of Science at MIT and a psychologist, uses internet MUDs multi-user
domains as a propelling pad for explorations of software design, user
interfaces, simulation, virtual reality, and the online way of life.
Sherry Turkle starts on the last chapter Identity Crisis in her book ‘Life on
the Screen’ Identity in the Age of the Internet by referring to what
psychological well being was thought of in earlier eras. She says that health is
described in terms of fluidity rather than constancy. I think this proclamation

Turkle gives two examples of couples that fell in love on MUD, but when they met
in person, they were disappointed. A lack of visual and conversational cues
allows the mind to sculpt a perfect lover from its own desires. She explains how
the person on the other side of the screen appears to be the perfect mate,
because the player wants to create the perfect mate (207). Another point that
Turkle made is that when writing a love letter there is far less deception than
when writing on MUD. When writing a letter, the sender knows that one day he
will see his lover again; but on a MUD, face to face interaction is not always
going to occur (249).”

identity online. She talks about a well debate group in which online personae.
