on Learning and Skills
Development
Learning is an essential part of every human being who enters into this world.
Man, however, comes in this world very poorly equipped. Everything the child
eventually knows, or can do, must be learned. Some things are learned without
much effort with the passage of time like walking, breathing etc. but everything
else, however, must be learned through proper methods.
Every professional career oriented person wants to grow in his career. For this
he slowly grows by developing physically, mentally, and spiritually as all
animals do in their environment. In this highly diverse, strongly competitive
and technologically changing and rapidly growing environment every person has to
struggle multiple times more then he used to in order to prosper.
The people with the best knowledge and experience can only survive. Human
Resource Departments now a day look for more learned, skilled, talented people.
Even the jobs and careers are now becoming more enriched thus one person is
expected to have sufficient knowledge to function in more then one field. Human
Resource Departments are considered to not only be responsible for the four
important following functions:
• Recruitment
• Selection
• Salary
• Compensation

But they are also responsible in the most important phase of Human resource
Management that is the Training and Skills Development of the Employees.
Training is an important element of Human Resources (HR) management. Training
means providing systematic help in learning and acquiring know-how and skills in
order to increase physical and mental fitness for particular activities. The
ultimate objective of training is improved efficiency.
Training is also a tool for employees’ skills development. It follows that
employees’ induction and orientation training, quality training, safety and safe
driving training, language training and specialized group training in technical
and commercial fields, such as machine and equipment operation, computer
application, or selling, are usually functions of training managers and
instructors guided by the Training Managers who hold a very important position
in moulding the companies assets that are the employees to the requirements of
the company. Trainers must be able to create an environment and straightforward
opportunities for the transfer of knowledge from one individual to another.
Employees who have been trained in utilizing the skills and talent they have not
have certain definite advantages as compared to the other people who do not.
They perform well, they are properly prepared and knowledgeable and the level of
productivity is more then the other less skilled employees. They tend to make
few errors even sometimes the case may be none. They operate machinery with
utmost comfort and are flexible to the changing technological advances of time
whenever required. The Training and Development unit is committed in different
organizations in providing the community with the knowledge, skills and
abilities needed in their present careers as well as those that will support
them to develop career advancement opportunities in future. “ Knowledge has
never been known to harm anyone, as in someway or the other out in this world it
is regarded as a blessing in disguise” (Anonymous) In a number of successful
organizations a number of professional development and technical training
programs are offered in order to increase the capabilities of an employee not
only for the company where he works but also for the growth and stability he
will have in future in this organization. The training & development programs
should be continually redesigned and augmented in order to meet the changing
needs of the organization and the developmental needs of administrative
employees who support the academic mission of the organization.
Under-trained managers and staff are more likely to be ineffective and
inefficient and showing high ratio of making errors as compared to those who
have the required skills to meet their objectives. Managers should be taught how
to properly conduct an interview, how to develop teamwork skills and work-life
balance for salespeople, how to create the complete 360-degree manager and
supervisor development programs. Training programs essentially aim to accelerate
the developmental learning process of the people within the company and help
them grow in their chosen career
