Term Paper
on Job Qualification Letter
Knowledge and Ability Qualification Statement
1. Knowledge of professional curriculum design and development principles,
methods, and state-of-the-art training technology sufficient to create sound
training and developmental programs for a variety of employee levels and roles.
Through the workshop and training sessions, they learn what their
responsibilities will include, how to do their job well, what to do in
unexpected situation or crisis involving students, or in extreme cases such as
harassment or suicide. I not only help design the workshop materials, but also
help write the TA handbook as well as give presentation in some of the workshop.
The workshop is created so that it's a combination of lecture and hands on
exercise. This helps the audience to be more creative in solving problems and
case studies that we provide. I also assist Professors Albert George and Peter
Jackson in developing material for a short course in Applied System Engineering.
2. Knowledge of measurement and evaluation principles and techniques sufficient
to identify training requirements and evaluate program effectiveness at
individual and organizational levels. Through the TA training program, great
emphasis is placed on evaluation and readjustment. For each workshop or training
session, we collect evaluation made specifically for that particular workshop.
We then analyze them to gain knowledge about how the participants feel about the
workshop, how beneficial is the workshop or how can we improve it. Changes are
made continuously through out the training based on comments and suggestions
from those evaluations. As an organization, a summary of our performance as the
trainer plus the analysis from participant’s evaluations are collected and
archived for future improvement of the program as a whole.
3. Knowledge of quality principles, practices, and tools to analyze customer
requirements, defines indicators, and develops and implements training
solutions. I received a formal training in terms of analyzing customer
requirements and translate customer needs into a workable project through my
study as system engineering. We also learn how to translate customer's everyday
comments, concern, or complaints into more technical terms that can be passed on
to our technical group such as mechanical or electrical engineering. In
addition, I took quality control class which help equip me with the knowledge in
quality principles and its practices. For the first project, our team of seven,
designs a route planner for transporting hazardous materials for trucking
companies. In the second project, I was part of a twenty-person team that
designed a program that fits for a manager to use to make decision based upon
product/contract/person performance. Both project details were heavily
influenced by customer needs and requirements. Through out the process, we as a
team got real hands on training in analyzing customer requirement and came up
with a solution to turn that into an actual product.
4. Ability to provide guidance and direction to project subject matter experts
and support staff to achieve program objectives.
5. Ability to communicate, make presentations, conduct group and individual
interviews, and provide technical advice on training and development programs,
policies, and procedures. I mentioned above that I work as a TA trainer in which
I get to facilitate the workshop and seminars. As a facilitator, I have improved
greatly my presentation skills both orally and materially (i.e. power point
slides for presentation). The workshop is consisted of about 35-40 participants.
6. Knowledge of multimedia/internet training applications, computer-based
training, and distance learning sufficient to design, develop, implement and
evaluate computer-based, Internet and distance learning training and development
programs. In one of my teaching assistantship my main responsibility was to
manage the web site and coordinate the interaction between students and the
professor. Communication through the Internet, discussion board and chat
session. Another teaching assistantship that I was involved in was with a class
called Applied System Engineering. The class incorporates advanced technology
including the use of multimedia room, interactive discussion, and lab exercise
that shows students hands on situations. There are 2 groups of off-campus
students, whom of which are junior/senior engineering at leading companies such
as General Motor, Lockheed Martin etc. The first off-campus group joins the
on-campus student in class via live video. They received each week videotapes of
the lecture plus additional materials for that week class. I help design a way
for these groups of off-campus students to participate in the lab exercise.
Quite a bit of redesign goes into adjusting the class exercise to fit the
distance learning students' situation and environment. Most, if not all, the
interaction between us and the distance learning students are through our course
web site, which I manage. There are areas where students can obtain necessary
class materials in the form of power point presentation file or other types of
file. My responsibilities were to prepare a schedule layout, prepare materials,
research and compile necessary literature, and complete mathematical
computations for the lecture.
7. Ability to work in multi-disciplinary team that includes multimedia
specialists, instructional designers, content experts, programmers, graphic
design artists and other resources. The applied system engineering class that I
TA for is taught and run by a multi-disciplinary team. We have multimedia
specialists who help us video tape and broadcast our class to our
distance-learning students. I have also worked with the company's program
coordinator to ensure that they are provided with sufficient course materials,
class works, and good quality of the media. As the technology gets more
advanced, we constantly change the way the class is being taught to incorporate
these new technologies. We work with our university-learning center in
developing new ways to present course materials or conduct in-class exercises.
