Term Paper on Difference in Rearing Boys
And Girls
No one can deny the fact that there are numerous differences between a girl and
a boy which are innate, gender roles however are determined by the culture and
society, they are the characteristics and traits that are assigned to a specific
gender. Sexism in today’s society and culture is one of the most dominating
attitudes which clearly states that men are the rulers, the superior sex and
place him adherently on the top of the hierarchy, thereby totally diminishing
the rights of equality a woman has and denying the fact that women are as good
as men.

Sexism is deeply rooted in the culture; environment and media pervade the
thinking and philosophy of people and result into a constituent of the person,
which cannot be eradicated. Boys grow up with the deep realization that they are
going to be a ‘man’, strong physically, mentally in every aspect capable of
facing any trouble and ultimately the stronger sex the one who is going to rule.
On the other hand girls are made to think of their existence only due to the
men, that they are born to please and oblige them and women are week and men are
essential to their existence. Things like these and many others are constantly
drummed into the minds of children from their environment and culture hence when
they grow up its impossible to escape them.
The differences of sexes shouldn’t be brought forth while child rearing, while
bringing up children both girls and boys should be treated equally and parents
should forget their children’s genders and simply raise them up as human beings.
But no matter what one says, parents fail to provide the same kind of
environment for all their children and their treatment towards them is entirely
different from one to the other. This difference in the attitude children are
raised has a profound effect on the way these children grow up to think and
their attitudes towards each other. The way a child is raised then goes on to
influence how he feels about himself and how he treats others around him. Girls
from a very tender age are made to realize that boys are superior and as she
grows up another realization hits, which narrows her down to just a body and
diminishes all other capabilities, and talents she has.
The topic of sexism has been profoundly undertaken and women, by law today are
to be treated the same as men. But the law alone cannot curb a sexist society
once parents start rearing their children alike then only will there be an
unbiased and equal society with equal opportunities for both sexes.
