(c) To encourage high levels of ethical conduct for those engaged in the
production and distribution of goods and services to consumers;
(d) To assist countries in curbing abusive business practices by all enterprises
at the national and international levels which adversely affect consumers;
(e) To facilitate the development of independent consumer groups;
(f) To further international cooperation in the field of consumer protection;
(g) To encourage the development of market conditions which provide consumers
with greater choice at lower prices.
It is the increase in the consumers’ expectations of safety and quality that has
given so much emphasis to consumerism and laws protecting the consumers. More
consumers are demanding medical, financial transactions, credit card transfer of
payment protection, marketing and advertising techniques used, better safeguards
in managed care, and reasonable standards on global issues like trade, food
safety, and the environment.

Environmental Consumerism
One of the areas where consumers are propagating their concerns is the
environmental responsibility of the corporations and the businesses known as
green consumerism. It pertains to the environmental analysis based on the
analysis of consumption and various demands on products and services by the
consumers. An environmental protection law as such promotes ecological,
historical and scenic values, as well as scientific, geological and educational
ones regarding the consumers. Any environmental protection to consumers must
incorporate consumer values and preferences.
Environmental consumerism generates more revenues for businesses due to their
appeals to the consumer values, health and safety. Firms usually look for a

assurance at work.
Modern businesses are viewed as responsible for environmental factors and are
required to:
(a) Support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
(b) Take initiatives to promote a higher environmental responsibility;
(c) To stimulate the development and the spreading of environment- friendly
technologies.
