Term Paper on a Thing of Beauty
If someone asks me to find out a single extraordinary quality in my own
personality, I wonder my answer would be----NONE. I don’t think of a single
characteristic that can be comparable to that of Giotto, who drew a perfect
circle freehand when asked by Pope Boniface VIII to prove his skill as an
artist. It was really surprising and one cannot expect it from many.
Although, I do not possess such skill like Giotto but do have some merits if
measures on a common man scale. I really feel like writing a description of some
of my perfect blunders especially that I have committed in my high schools days
but that might not work. Therefore, I must narrate any of my good features.
Basically I am a lover of art and beauty and very creative. When I shifted to my
new apartment I hardly had any furniture and no enough money to buy some. It was
quite uncomfortable to live without certain essential things but my monetary
limitations prevented me. One day I was cleaning my room and arranging books and
other stationary and wished I had a proper shelf or table to accommodate these,
I saw an empty wooden carton. It was a waste and I was planning to throw it out.
In a short while some idea flashed in my mind. I went down to the stationary
shop and got a wrapping paper and some pieces of ribbon. My sister was wondering
what I am up to. Quietly I started working on the empty wooden box. First I
cleaned all the dust and trimmed the rough edges. With the help of glue, I
started to wrap the box with the paper I bought for the purpose. Once the whole
box was covered with the paper with beautiful red roses printed over it, I
started making the pieces of ribbon into different shapes. Then I pasted the
different bows on the box. It was ready now---a small table on which I can put
my books. It was scrap turned into a piece of beauty. My sister was stunned with
surprise. She never expected such a utilization of an empty carton.
Now ideas came pouring into my mind. I took an empty plastic bottle and cut it
to a height of 4 inches. With the remaining paper I wrapped the bottle and
decorated it with ribbon bows. Another surprise---It was a pencil/pen holder.
With the use of a very little common plus esthetic sense I made a workable
arrangement and it was highly appreciated by almost everyone who visited us. No
one could guess at the first ....
